Star Trek Model Kits: U.S.S. Reliant preview

We had announced at Wonderfest that we’ll be releasing a 1:1000 scale kit of the U.S.S. Reliant in 2014. It is personally one of my favorite Star Trek ships. We’ve been working on it for a while now.

Angelo Bastianelli who worked on our recent Cadet Series models built the CG model. At this stage, there are still a few details for the factory to nail down, and then we’ll be able to see a prototype (hopefully soon).

Cool! I’m very much looking forward to this one. My old, original AMT/Ertl Reliant is actually up on eBay as we speak because of this kit. No joke. Those old Trek kits are simply too big for me. As much as I love them, I don’t have the workspace to build them, or the shelf space to display them. That’s why I think your 1/1000 scale kits and Cadets Series kits are perfect for me. Keep up the good work and I can’t wait to get my grubby hands on this kit!

  2. Dan says:

    VERY excited for this release!

  3. John Ross says:

Looks fantastic! I am hoping the bars that hold up the torpedo bay are hollow so it can be lit up…… Are you planning on including Aztec decals with this like you did with the refit?

  4. Mike says:

Yet another Trek subject that’s already been kitted not once but twice while other subjects go by the wayside again.

Will I buy it? Heck yes! Do I wish the Constellation class, Oberth class or something else be kitted? Uh, yeah.

  5. Tomh says:

Thank you Jamie, for listening to your customers!

  6. Tomh says:

Thanks Jamie, for listening to your customers!!!

  7. sci-fi_model_guy says:

    YES!! I can’t wait!

  8. John Z says:

Check the alignment of the concentric grid lines on the top of the saucer. If he’s just using the existing AMT kit as reference, those lines are wrong.

    http://www.ex-astris-scientia.org/scans/miranda1.htm – Schematic 5 Views (row 1, column 1) and Studio Model close-up (row 3, column 4)

Look at the grid lines where they meet those two sensor things where the saucer meets the hull extension. On the AMT kit, those lines are off alignment. Some of the others also need slight adjustment as a result of those two being off.

  9. nicholas says:

yeah! this is exciting!!! i second the question on aztek decals!

  10. eimb1999 says:

    Oooh! Reliant looks great!

  11. Opus Penguin says:

Very interested in this. It will go nice with the 1:1000 Refit.

  12. Jeff Spickler says:

finally I have been waiting for the reliant to be released in this scale and I already have an aztek mask that is perfect for that kit and it will look great along side my other 1/1000 ships.

  13. Helio_W says:

I could be wrong, but the 3D model seems to suffer from the same problem as the old AMT kit: the saucer looks too thin.

  14. Mickey says:

Its Coooool!! I was waiting for this ship.

I hope I can buy this kit as soon as posible ^m^

  15. crowe-t says:

This looks fantastic! This will be a great addition to the other PL 1/1000 kits.

I look forward to seeing the first test shot pictures.

  16. Phil says:

Yes, I can finally get that Bozeman conversion.

  17. RPH_1701 says:

Looks to be a great addition to the 1/1000 scale ‘Trek line, but are there any plans for other “Miranda class” varients, such as Cmdr. Cisco’s “USS Saratoga/NCC-31911” as seen in DS-9 at the battle of Wolf 359? This would be minus the “roll bar” and with modified surface detail and side-slung phaser “cannons”. Maybe additional parts could be molded as options (hint, hint)? Thanks!

  18. Stephen says:

Thanks, Round2, for making this kit. I’ve been waiting for this in 1/1000! I’ll echo the request from above to have some parts options for the Saratoga II from Deep Space Nine. Slightly more intricate would be parts to convert to the USS Bozeman from the TNG show “Cause and Effect”.

I think the USS Reliant would do very well as a 1/350th kit. Please make that happen!!

  19. ModelMan says:

Great news! There’s been so much good stuff coming out lately that’s it’s almost hard to keep track of it all! Thanks for listening to the customers, Jamie!

  20. ModelMan says:

By the way, when you will folks be incorporating the Lindbergh line into your main catalog with AMT, PL and MPC?

    • JamieH says:

Right now, we have the Hawk and Linderg stuff in a catalog of their own. We might blend all of the brands the next time we redo the catalogs.

  21. BatToys says:

    Hi Jamie,
Sorry to miss you at iHobby Expo 2013. Rep there said you could best answer these questions:

Will there be improvements to The Batmobile besides new figures?
    Love the new box.

Any plans to repop the Aurora Banana Splits Buggy?

Will Superman have an engraved S chest piece option?

Is the 1/25 Batmobile slot car still planned?

Looking forward to the Captain Action Iron Man, Silver Age and West Batman costumes.

    Thanks,
    Frank

    • JamieH says:

Nothing more planned for the Batmobile re-issue other than figures and the new box. The box we are showing is a concept and is subject to change, but it captures the retro look we’ll be shooting for.

Nothing planned for a Banana Splits kit.

The superman kit won’t have an engraved “s” but it includes both decal and sticker options to use.

I haven’t heard anything about a 1:25 scale Batmobile slot, but I don’t work on that line.

  22. Tony05 says:

Fantastic! Although I think I’m going to wait for the 1/350 scale…

  23. SeoulWind says:

I’ve been trying to keep up with the display graphics you folks are posting at the various hobby shows via online galleries, and it looks like either you are using the same graphics for each show or the top-saucer gridline issue (see post #8) hasn’t been addressed yet. I noticed that the 1/2500 Reliant decal has the same problem its 1:537 bigger sister originated as well. Can anyone say if they plan to revisit the position of those gridlines for this kit?

Really, really looking forward to this one, but I would love to see this problem eliminated…

  24. fortress says:

I have to say that as far as Trek subjects go Round 2 has really
been doing a pretty good job of offering a broder selection of
Trek model subjects in particular kits in 1/1000 scale which I
Tend to prefer as a collector, looking forward to seeing more
    Offerings in this scale.

    Recommendations for me would include:

    KLINGON BIRD OF PREY
    GRISSOM SCIENCE SHIP (STAR TREK3)
    DEEP SPACE NINE RUNABOUT
    U.S.S. DEFAINT
    U.S.S EXCELSIOR (STAR TREK 3)

Thanks Round and keep up the good work!

    • RPH_1701 says:

@fortress – actually the original AMT#6630 USS Excelsior model was in 1/1000 scale. Same therefore goes for the 2011 AMT#676 re-release of the NCC-1701-B Enterprise, which was a retool of “The Great Experiment.”

  25. RPH_1701 says:

Recently saw the upcoming AMT Star Trek Cadet Series Deep Space 9 Item #AMT764, with the 1/2500 USS Defiant, the Cardassian warship, and USS Saratoga, NCC-31911! Thanks for bringing more ‘Trek ships into your product line! So, as I hinted a year ago, now that you have the 1/1000 Reliant, is there any chance of a 1/1000 USS Saratoga, NCC-31911? 🙂 Thanks for being so good to your customers.

    • JamieH says:

Our 1:1000 scale Reliant gets you 95% of the way to the Saratoga. I’m sure you’ll be able to adapt into one. Keep an eye out for our aztec decal set for the needed registries to create that and several other Miranda-class variations.
