The Legacy of George Toteff

Many enthusiasts of the plastic kit hobby still don’t know who George Toteff was. Only a select few modelers have met him or had the opportunity to speak with him about his work. We’ve never seen his name on a kit box, but his influence on many aspects of the hobby is impressive by any account. It stretches from the formative years of plastic models right to present day. Many of the people involved in the formation of the model companies that shaped our hobby into what it is today are no longer with us. With his passing in early February, George Toteff is now among them and those of us at Round 2 are deeply saddened.

Wow. What a terrific article. Thanks for posting it, I hopeyou leave it up there permanently. I wish these unsung heroes were better known when they were still with us.
I also like reading more and more about the history of these people and the kits they helped produce.
I agree with the above posts. Maybe Polar can give us some bio on other icons of the industry…pretty please?
Thank you very much for re-issueing the old school big rigs! Now I can build up the kits I missed as a boy. I would love to see the Peterbilt cabover soon!
Thanks for sharing this story and legacy with us. I think this should be a regular section of the newsletter. Talking about all the creators and contributors to the modeling industry. How about a story on “The Kat” Budd Anderson and how he contributed to “amt” and how he started “IMC”. How about why “amt” was in small letters for so many years, and not in capital letters. How about telling us how model car molds were created and how they shrunk down and got all the small minute detailings like side emblems and tiny dashboard details into those models way back in the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s before computer technology or did they have crude computers to do that with ??. This could be a very informative regular part of each newsletter. Maybe you could call that section “The Styrene Archives” or something similar. Please Round2, give it some serious thought. Think about it. I’m sure everyone would be interested. Maybe we can take a poll on it, So come-on all you modelers out there, what do ya think about this idea?
